Wedding Makeup Tips For The Mother Of The Bride And Mother Of The Groom

If you want to look your best on your son or daughter’s wedding day but you’re not comfortable wearing a lot of makeup… follow these very basic tips specifically for the mother of the bride or groom.

These tips will help you look the most natural without looking like you’ve been “made up” for a special event:

  • Consider getting a facial 1 week to 1 month before the wedding. This will rejuvenate your skin, making it appear more youthful and vibrant.
  • In the week leading up to the wedding, apply a facial mask every other day to get your skin in the best condition possible.
  • The night before or morning of the wedding, try an instant lift serum. It’s great because it lifts your skin — making you feel (and look) fresh and young. Plus it bonds your makeup to your skin all day long — so you won’t have that faded look as the day goes on. (This is the one I used — it’s great and works for 24 hours.)
  • The day of the wedding, apply a foundation. If you don’t already use foundation, take a trip to the beauty counter of your choice and let them perfectly match you for the right shade. It will be fun!
  • Be sure to apply powder on top of your foundation — to avoid shiny spots from showing up in the wedding photos.
  • Accent your cheeks a tiny bit with blush to define your cheekbones and give the illusion of a slim, toned face.
  • Choose a neutral eye shadow (rather than a color that matches your outfit). This will make your eyes appear more natural, instead of “made up.”
  • Apply a good coat of mascara to make your whole look come together.
  • To find the right shade of lipstick (again, don’t match it with your outfit), just hold individual tubes of lipstick close to your face, and let your skin’s natural tone determine which lipstick shade “matches” your skin best.

Remember to apply your makeup in natural lighting, if possible — rather than behind fluorescent bulbs which tend to distort colors and shades.

In the end, you will simply look polished, rather than overly made up.
